Joey Barton has admitted that he spoke to Valencia and Fenerbahce before deciding to join Marseille on transfer deadline day.
The midfielder moved to the French club on a season-long loan from Queens Park Rangers and insists that he has aspirations to win silverware with his new side.
Barton told L'Equipe: "I come to Marseille to win trophies. I don't come for holidays or as a tourist. It is a challenge for me not only on professional level but also personally, discovering a new culture.
"Did I have other contacts? Yes, I talked to Fenerbahce and Valencia. But I didn't hesitate long when Marseille came, it was a good challenge for me."
Barton would have been forced to serve a 12-game ban if he had remained in the Premier League this season.
