UEFA have dismissed a complaint by Slovenian side Maribor over Rangers' fielding of Carlos Bocanegra in their Europa League play-off first leg.

The American, who signed from French club St. Etienne, had been granted international clearance to play in last Thursday's match, but was unable to face Motherwell in a league fixture over the weekend because he had not obtained a UK work permit in time.

"Rangers Football Club is delighted to confirm that Uefa has rejected the protest filed by NK Maribor with regards to the ineligibility of Carlos Bocanegra," the club said on its official website.

"As already indicated, the SFA confirmed Carlos was deemed eligible to play at a domestic level within the Uefa deadline in accordance with the requirements of the Uefa Regulations."

The SPL champions go into Thursday's second leg at Ibrox 2-1 down.
