Zingarevich: 'Difficult to sack McDermott'

Reading owner Anton Zingarevich says that it was a "difficult decision" to sack manager Brian McDermott earlier this month.

Reading owner Anton Zingarevich has admitted that it was "difficult" to call time on Brian McDermott's career at the Madejski Stadium.

The 51-year-old was dismissed from the club earlier this month following a four-year stint as manager, despite leading the side to Championship glory last season.

McDermott has been replaced by former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins, who has signed a contract lasting until the summer of 2016.

"It was a really difficult decision [to sack McDermott] as I had a good relationship with Brian as he is a great person," Zingarevich said in a press conference.

Meanwhile, Adkins has claimed that he is determined to keep the Royals in the top flight.
