Paul McShane joins Reading for free from Hull City

Paul McShane agrees a three-year contract with Reading after being released by Hull City.

Paul McShane has become the second free agent to join Reading from Hull City this summer, signing a three-year contract at the Madejski Stadium.

The 29-year-old defender follows Stephen Quinn, who also joined from the Tigers yesterday.

Speaking of McShane, Royals boss Steve Clarke told the club website: "As well as his obvious talents as an experienced defender who is aggressive both in the air and on the ground, I felt that he was a good character to bring into our squad.

"Paul has gained good experience at many clubs and, like Stephen Quinn, was an important part of a promotion-winning team. He has a winning mentality and it will be good for our two young central defenders, Michael Hector and Jake Cooper, to train and play alongside Paul."

McShane said that he wants to be part of "something special" with Reading.

"Biting at the bit to get going @ReadingFC now," he tweeted. "Hopefully I can be a part of something special and get this club back to the BPL. urzz!"

McShane spent six years as a Hull player, last season scoring once in 20 Premier League appearances as the Tigers were relegated.
