Real Madrid defender Marcelo: 'Champions League semi-final is still wide open'

Marcelo insists that Real Madrid can still reach the Champions League final despite losing the first leg of their semi-final to Juventus.

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has insisted that his side's Champions League semi-final is still "wide open" following their first-leg defeat to Juventus.

The defending champions were beaten 2-1 in Turin last night to give Juve the upper hand heading into next week's second leg.

However, Marcelo remains confident that Los Blancos can get the result that they need at the Santiago Bernabeu to make it through to their second final in two years.

"We weren't the best team of all time before this game, nor are we the worst after it," the Brazil international told the club's official website. "It was a bad result because we wanted to win but it's still wide open and we'll do better in the second leg.

"Juventus are a great side; they wanted to have the ball. We didn't have the best performance but we'll have to wait for the second leg. Our fans always get behind us and support us. We know that the boss has confidence in our ability. We know what we're capable of doing in each match."

Madrid continue their La Liga campaign on Saturday when they host Valencia.
