Boss Zinedine Zidane says that Real Madrid were prepared to 'suffer' in order to progress through to the Champions League final with an aggregate win over Bayern Munich.

Boss Zinedine Zidane has said that fighting for victory is "in the DNA of the club" as Real Madrid edged past Bayern Munich to reach the Champions League final.

Holding a 2-1 lead from the first leg in Germany, Real conceded early at the Bernabeu before battling their way to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday night, giving the La Liga outfit a 4-3 triumph on aggregate.

Real have now overcome Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern to reach a fourth final in five years, and Zidane has claimed that he has not been surprised by his side's competitive qualities.

The 45-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "It's in the DNA of the club. We never stop fighting up to the very last minute, just as the Bayern players did tonight.

"This is our third final but we suffered a lot. At the end, we were strong and we lived with the pressure. We don't give up and when you see Bayern's desire, we never gave up because we wanted the win. Even if they played better, our desire was bigger.

"We played against a huge team, Juve was the same, PSG also. We are happy because we beat all three despite having to suffer."

Real will face either Roma or Liverpool in next month's final in Kiev.
