Ex-Real Madrid striker Raul ends career with American title

Raul helps the New York Cosmos to win the North American Soccer League Bowl in his last ever match as a professional footballer.

Real Madrid legend Raul called time on his career last night having helped the New York Cosmos to win the North American Soccer League Bowl.

The 38-year-old did not get his name on the scoresheet during the 3-2 win over 10-man Ottawa Fury, though he did play for the entirety of the 90 minutes.

"It was my last game in my career. I'm very proud of everything I did. For me now, I start a new life with another project. I'm happy, but I'm also very sad," he told reporters after the final whistle.

The Spaniard was Real's record scorer with 323 goals to his name until that total was recently passed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Throughout his 16 years at the Bernabeu, the centre-forward won six La Liga titles and the Champions League three times.

He also played for German outfit Schalke 04 and Al Saad in the Middle East, while he was also capped by Spain on 102 occasions, from which he scored 44 goals.
