John O'Shea has claimed that helping the Republic of Ireland to beat world champions Germany in Euro 2016 qualifying on Thursday ranks as the best moment of his international career.
Shane Long struck on 70 minutes as Martin O'Neill's troops beat the Germans 1-0 in Dublin to guarantee themselves at least a third-place playoff to reach the finals.
O'Shea struck a last-minute equaliser on the night of his 100th cap when they drew 1-1 with Joachim Low's men in the reverse fixture, but the Sunderland defender says that last night takes pride of place.
"It obviously ranks very highly," he told BBC Sport. "When I scored out in Germany for the 100th cap, that night was very special, but this tops it when you beat Germany at home."
The Irish, third in Group D, travel away to second-placed Poland on Sunday knowing that victory would see them secure automatic qualification.
