In-demand manager Mauricio Pellegrino could reportedly be left with a straight choice between Crystal Palace and Southampton as he is wanted by both Premier League clubs.
The 45-year-old departed Alaves at the end of the season after guiding them to an impressive ninth-place finish in La Liga and to the final of the Copa del Rey, where they were beaten 3-1 by Barcelona.
Pellegrino emerged as a rumoured target for Palace soon after Sam Allardyce stepped aside last month, citing a wish to spend more time with his family as the reason behind his surprise decision.
According to The Telegraph, Southampton have taken a big step towards bringing the Argentine on board by already interviewing him, but the Eagles are also keen to hold talks.
It is claimed that Pellegrino, who has experience of coaching in English football with Liverpool, will have to decide between the two sides.
Southampton took the decision to part company with Claude Puel last week, amid talk of a falling out with players at the tail end of the season.
