Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes will reportedly reject the chance to link up with Southampton as he instead wants to join a bigger Premier League club.
Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed his interest in the Netherlands international, who was widely expected to make a switch to the south coast before the end of the month.
Promes is not so keen on a move to Southampton, however, with The Mirror suggesting that he will bide his time in the hope of a separate bid coming in from another English club in the summer window.
The 26-year-old has scored 53 goals in 101 Russian Premier League outings since arriving in 2014, including 10 in seven this term.
Southampton have already brought in Guido Carrillo from Monaco this month, meanwhile, paying a club-record fee for the Argentine striker.
