Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale says that he will be fit for his side's Premier League opener against Newcastle United, despite picking up a back problem on international duty.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has calmed injury fears by claiming that he will be fit to start the new Premier League season.

The 23-year-old, who signed a new contract at White Hart Lane this summer, was a doubt for the start of the campaign after picking up a knock on his back during Wales's 2-0 defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina.

"It was a bit sore when I landed on it, but it wasn't too bad," said Bale. "I will be fine and I just have to get myself ready for the weekend."

Spurs begin their season under new manager Andre Villas-Boas with an away trip to Newcastle United.
