Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino: "We deserved to win"

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino believes that his side deserved their 1-0 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that his side deserved to take all three points from their Premier League clash against Sunderland.

Spurs secured their first win of the Premier League season as Ryan Mason scored eight minutes from time to hand Pochettino's men the victory at the Stadium of Light.

The Argentine feels that his team were worthy winners, despite seeing the Black Cats strike the woodwork twice through Jermain Defoe and Jack Rodwell.

He told BBC Sport: "We are very pleased with our performance. It was a hard game for us, an open game, but I think we dominated it and we deserved to win the match.

"It's another clean sheet, the first victory of the league after five games, and now we can move on. This will help us with our confidence for the next games.

"The goal showed how we tried to play and what our philosophy is, it was fantastic but unlucky for him because he got a big knock on his knee but we hope it is not a big issue."

Spurs moved up to 12th in the Premier League as a result of their win.
