Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars says that his club will fight to keep in-demand defender Nicolas Tagliafico this summer.

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has insisted that his club will fight to keep Nicolas Tagliafico in Amsterdam beyond the end of this summer's transfer window.

Tagliafico has been linked with a host of European clubs over the last few weeks.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are both believed to be monitoring the left-back, but it is thought that the strongest interest has arrived from the Premier League in the shape of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite being widely tipped to leave Ajax this summer, Overmars has said that the Dutch giants will fight to keep hold of the Argentina international for at least "another year".

"We want to keep Nico Tagliafico and David Neres here," Overmars told NOC. "If you start reading the news on sports sites every time, you will continue to give your question and answer.

"In the end, we provide the answer ourselves, because of course we are working with Nico to keep him here for another year. Let's see that in the coming weeks."

Tagliafico, who joined Ajax from Independiente in January 2018, has contributed five goals and six assists in 35 appearances for his Dutch club during the 2018-19 campaign.

The 26-year-old has a contract in Amsterdam until the summer of 2022.
