Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has expressed his interest in becoming Arsenal's new technical director after Monchi pulled out of the running, a report claims.

Former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars is interested in returning to his old club to become their technical director, according to a report.

The Gunners looked all set to announce the appointment of former Sevilla and Roma transfer guru Monchi, but he is believed to have rejected a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Football.London suggests that Arsenal may now turn to second-choice option Overmars, who won the Premier League and FA Cup double with the Londoners in 1998.

Overmars, currently employed as Ajax's director of football, is said to have indicated that he is interested in a move to the Emirates and Arsenal officials are aware of his desire to return.

Head of football Raul Sanllehi is the man tasked with picking a candidate to fill the technical director role, with an announcement planned before the end of the season.
