Reading boss Brian McDermott has denied reports linking his club with a move for Jermain Defoe.
The Royals are said to be keen on boosting their striking options this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur's Defoe believed to be high on McDermott's wishlist.
However, when asked by the Reading Post if he had any interest in the England international, McDermott replied: "No."
Then, when quizzed on whether or not his club had enquired about Defoe's availability, the boss said: "I don't know to be honest with you. Nick [Hammond] might have spoken to Daniel Levy, he speaks to him quite regularly."
Defoe scored 11 Premier League goals for Spurs last season.
