Steaua Bucuresti, Basel share the spoils

Leandro Tatu scores in the 89th minute to earn Steaua Bucuresti a 1-1 home draw with Basel.

Steaua Bucuresti and Basel have played out a 1-1 draw in Romania in their Champions League Group E clash.

The Swiss visitors did most of the running in the opening minutes of the contest, with Marco Streller and Ivan Ivanov going very close.

Fabian Frei and Mohamed Salah both had chances for Basel as the first half progressed, before Valentin Stocker's deflected effort hit the underside of the Steaua bar.

Basel's pressure finally paid off two minutes into the second half when Marcelo Diaz shot home from 20 yards after Iasmin Latovlevici had given the ball away.

That goal rattled the home side and they pressed forward for the equaliser, which they earned with just one minute of normal time remaining.

Adrian Popa drilled in a cross from the right and substitute Leandro Tatu guided it home.
