Jack Butland targets Premier League loan move

Stoke City's on-loan goalkeeper Jack Butland says that ideally he would like to join a Premier League club in January to help boost his chances of going to the World Cup.

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland has said that he wants to join a Premier League team for the second half of the season to help him challenge for a spot in England's World Cup squad.

The 20-year-old, who made his international debut against Italy last year, is currently on loan at Championship side Barnsley due to Asmir Begovic keeping him out of the first team at the Britannia Stadium.

"I've always wanted to be an England international," he told Sky Sports News. "I want to get back in the squad and I want to go to the World Cup in the summer.

"That has been my target from the start of the season. If I wasn't playing it would be impossible for me to go. By coming here for three months, taking me up to the window in January, gives me the opportunity to get game time, to improve and to help here which will give me confidence.

"Ideally, in the second half of the season I would like to nick a Premier League loan move, which would be the ideal scenario, but I just need to keep playing."

Butland became England's youngest ever goalkeeper at 19 years 158 days when he featured in the 2-1 win over the Azzurri.
