Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has said that he expects Connor Wickham to be sidelined for a lengthy period after the striker picked up a knee injury against Manchester United.
The 18-year-old was stretchered off during the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford, leading to fears that it could be ligament damage.
"That's the big disappointment of the afternoon for us because we think it's a serious knee injury, and that's now seven we've had in 12 months," Bruce told Sky Sports News.
"We hope it's not what we think it is but the signs don't look good.
"It's unbelievable. I've never known anything like it."
Fraizer Campbell, Titus Bramble, Michael Turner, Craig Gordon and David Meyler have all suffered similar injuries in the past year.
