Jermain Defoe has insisted that Sunderland's 1-1 draw with Swansea City is a "good result" for the club.
The Black Cats picked up their first point of the season this afternoon as Defoe struck to earn them a share of the spoils on home turf.
The experienced striker is hopeful that Sunderland will now be able to put their recent woes behind them and climb up the table.
"It is a good result, they are a difficult team," Defoe is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "They pass the ball and move the ball well and made it difficult for us but it was important that we got a reaction today.
"The manager certainly got that – everyone worked hard, we pressed from the first whistle, managed to get the goal and we got the point so we will take that.
"It is not easy. Every game in the Premier League is so hard, home or away, and Swansea are a good side who have been playing well and they are really confident so I think it is a good point and hopefully we can kick on from here."
Sunderland are back in action on Tuesday when they host Exeter City in round two of the League Cup.
