Sebastian Larsson says Sunderland have "not been good enough in the final third" this season.

Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson has criticised his team's potency in front of goal this season but has lended his support to under-fire boss Steve Bruce.

Larsson, 26, is the Black Cats' top scorer this season with four goals, ahead of the more advanced pair of Nicklas Bendtner and Stephane Sessegnon, who both have two.

The Swedish free-kick specialist was particularly frustrated with this weekend's home defeat to lowly Wigan, where Sunderland threw away a point in the dying seconds after dominating for much of the game.

"We're just not good enough in the final third, let's be honest," Larsson told the Sunderland Echo.

"No disrespect to Wigan, but we should be winning those types of games."

The former Arsenal player has, however, given his support to boss Steve Bruce, who has been criticised by some fans.

"I still believe [Bruce] is the right man for the job," he added. "But I'm not surprised by how the fans reacted.

"We lost a game at home that we should have won if we want to get to where we want to be."

The North East club, who are currently 16th in the Premier League, next face a trip to fellow strugglers Wolves on Sunday.
