Gus Poyet defends bucket-kicking in Hull City-Sunderland clash

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet defends his act of kicking a drinks bucket over during the Black Cats' 1-1 draw against Hull City on Tuesday evening.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has defended his actions during the Black Cats' 1-1 draw against Hull City, believing that kicking a drinks cabinet over was preferable to saying something he "would regret".

The Uruguayan was sent to the KC Stadium stands after the act, which followed the decision of referee Mike Dean to book Jack Rodwell for diving.

Poyet told BBC Sport after the game: "I was sent off for kicking the bucket. The bottles coming out of the bucket didn't help me.

"I know it doesn't look good but it's nothing to worry about. I prefer that than saying something I would regret. I'm old fashioned. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch. There are no problems for me at all."

Sunderland remain 16th in the Premier League table.
