Gus Poyet: 'Crystal Palace win is Sunderland's turning point'

Gus Poyet believes that Monday's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace can prove a watershed moment in Sunderland's season.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is hoping that tonight's 3-1 win away to Crystal Palace proves to be the turning point of the club's season.

Steven Fletcher struck twice at Selhurst Park as the Black Cats earned what was only their second win of the Premier League campaign.

They travelled to London on the back of two successive defeats - including an 8-0 thumping by Southampton - but the Uruguayan believes that beating the Eagles will prove a watershed moment.

"I think it is going to be very different now," he told Sky Sports News at full time.

"It is incredible that you can be training well, doing things right and, because of one terrible accident at Southampton, you keep that feeling inside you for a couple of weeks.

"You need to get rid of them [those feelings] and the only way to do it is by winning a football game."

Victory for Sunderland also saw them move out of the relegation zone, with the North-East club now 15th in the table.
