Sunderland have pulled out of a deal to sign Davide Santon from Inter Milan after a breakdown in negotiations between the two clubs.
The 25-year-old had arrived in the North-East for a medical on Friday afternoon, but an agreement over the player's asking price could not be reached.
Santon, who spent four years at Newcastle United before departing in 2015, was also reportedly wanted by Crystal Palace and could now pursue a move to Selhurst Park.
"Sunderland AFC will not be pursuing its interest in Inter Milan player Davide Santon, after negotiations between the two clubs failed to reach a positive conclusion," the Black Cats said in an official statement.
Santon featured 13 times for Inter last season in all competitions.
