Leighton James: 'Swansea City players to blame for Garry Monk sacking'

Leighton James says that the Swansea City players should be to "blame" for Garry Monk's sacking.

Former Swansea City winger Leighton James has claimed that the players "have to take the blame" for Garry Monk's dismissal.

The 36-year-old was sacked by the Premier League club this afternoon following just one win in the team's last 11 top-flight games.

James, who spent three years with the Swans from 1980 to 1983, has claimed that the players should take some responsibility for the managerial change.

"It is the manager's fault ultimately because he selects the team and I suppose in a cynical way it is easier to sack one manager than 11 players," James told BBC Radio Wales. "But the players, ultimately have to take the blame because they are the ones who have underperformed."

Swansea are just one point above the relegation zone.
