Huw Jenkins: 'Garry Monk best Swansea City manager in history'

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins believes that Garry Monk is already the greatest manager in the club's history following his successful first season in charge.

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has declared Garry Monk as the greatest manager in the club's history.

The Swans have developed a reputation as a breeding ground for promising managers in recent times, with Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers among the holders of the post at the Liberty Stadium over the past few years.

However, Monk has guided the Welsh outfit to a record points haul and eighth place in the Premier League table in his first full season at the helm, and Jenkins believes that there can be no arguing against his achievements.

"He has to be [the best], he's finished with the top number of points and finished eighth in the Premier League," Jenkins told BBC Wales.

"You can't argue this year, I can't say anything different. Garry has grown and developed as a person, as a manager and learnt a lot in this period, and I feel he's finished the season in a real strong, positive way himself.

"We've had a fantastic season... many targets were broken. Many things have been a first for us but that just highlights what a great season Garry, his staff and the players have had with his first full season in charge as manager."

Jenkins also confirmed that he will be looking to "reward" Monk with a new contract this summer.
