Roberto Martinez: Swansea City draw is "hard to take"

Roberto Martinez admitted that his Everton's side 1-1 draw with Swansea City was "hard to take" after Jonjo Shelvey equalised with a penalty in the second half.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has described his side's 1-1 draw with Swansea City as "hard to take.

Jonjo Shelvey's second-half penalty cancelled out Aaron Lennon's opener, but the Toffees manager admitted that he was disappointed to leave Wales with just a point, questioning the spot-kick decision that was given when Seamus Coleman handled the ball.

"The result is hard to take because it feels like a defeat, it's two points dropped clearly," Martinez told BT Sport after the game.

"You're looking at how well Swansea played and they always make it difficult for teams here [at the Liberty Stadium] and I thought we were perfect. Obviously we scored a very good goal in open play.

"I do feel that a draw doesn't reflect what happened on the football pitch today. My thoughts are that there is contact [with the hand] and sometimes you need to apply a little bit of common sense. Is it handball? Sometimes you expect the referee to apply common sense."

The draw leaves the Blues 12th in the Premier League.
