Sports Mole previews the opening women's match of the 2012 Olympics between Great Britain and New Zealand.

The opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games doesn't take place until Friday, but the women's football competition gets underway early on Wednesday.

The first matchday in the fifth edition of the women's Olympic football pits Great Britain against the underdogs for the tournament New Zealand in Cardiff.

The Kiwis participated in the Olympic women's football for the first time in 2008 – and they picked up just a single point in the group stage following a draw against Japan.

Meanwhile, Great Britain are taking part in their first Olympic Games, and they drew 0-0 against Sweden in their first friendly match together on Friday.

Both sides enter the match with no real injury concerns to contend with, while Kelly Smith and Amber Hearn are considered the danger women for each side.

Possible starting lineups:

Great Britain: Bardsley; Scott, Houghton, Bradley, Stoney; Williams, Little, Aluko, Asante; Smith, White

New Zealand: Bindon; Percival, Green, Hoyle, Erceg; Moorwood, Yallop, Hassett, Longo; Hearn, Gregorius

Sports Mole says: 1-0
