Veteran Spanish midfielder Xavi signs a new two-year contract with Qatari outfit Al Sadd.

Veteran Spanish midfielder Xavi has signed a new two-year contract with Al Sadd.

The former Barcelona midfielder moved to Al Sadd in 2015, and is fast closing in on 100 appearances in all competitions for the Qatar Stars League outfit.

Xavi will turn 39 in the early stages of 2019, but talk of retirement has been ended by the news that the former Spain international has penned an extension.

"I am happy to keep on being a part of the Al Sadd family for two more years," Xavi told reporters. "I am delighted to be at the club and with its fans. Everyone here is one big family and I am satisfied and thrilled to continue."

Xavi, who won eight La Liga titles, three Copas del Rey and four Champions Leagues with Barcelona, revealed last year that he wanted to manage the Qatar national team in the future.
