Marcelino hails players

Villarreal boss Marcelino praises his side following last night's 4-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.

Villarreal boss Marcelino has hailed his players following last night's 4-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.

The three points consolidated seventh position in La Liga for the Yellow Submarine, who will play Europa League football next season.

"We are extremely pleased to have ended the season at El Madrigal like this," he told reporters at a press conference.

"I think this is the best possible farewell – scoring goals and playing some great football. We very happy to have given our fans this send off. We're all grateful to them.

"There's the possibility of finishing sixth as well, which is something we'll fight for. We'll go to the Anoeta next weekend looking to win. To be in the top seven all season long makes me so proud. The players have been superb."

Villarreal were promoted from the Segunda Division last season.
