Ashley Williams left to sweat over Wales injury update

Results of a scan on Ashley Williams's injured shoulder are not expected until Monday, with the Wales skipper seen as a major doubt for the meeting with Belgium in Lille.

Wales skipper Ashley Williams faces an anxious wait to see if he will play any further part in his side's Euro 2016 campaign.

The Red Dragons are into the quarter-finals of the competition after a memorable run that has so far seen them top Group B and overcome Northern Ireland in the first knockout round.

Williams was left in serious discomfort in the 1-0 victory over Ireland on Saturday, however, as a collision with teammate Jonny Williams left him needing on-field treatment.

Despite refusing to leave the pitch and instead playing on for the remaining 10 minutes, the Swansea City defender is seen as a major doubt for the meeting with Belgium in Lille next week due to the shoulder complaint.

Williams underwent a scan on Sunday but is still waiting for the results, which are now not likely to be revealed until Monday morning.

Should the 31-year-old be deemed unfit to play, James Collins is the favourite to fill in at the back for a Wales side that has kept clean sheets in successive games.
