Half-Time Report: Romaine Sawyers puts Walsall ahead

Walsall lead Swindon Town at half time, thanks to a Romaine Sawyers strike.

Walsall are halfway to a valuable win in their quest to cement a playoff place as Romaine Sawyers has given them a 1-0 half-time lead against Swindon Town.

The West Midlands outfit started the quicker of the two sides with Craig Westcarr twice threatening Wes Foderingham's goal in the early stages.

Febian Brandy had arguably the best chance of the opening minutes for the Saddlers, when his strike from inside the box just drifted wide of Swindon's goal.

Town posed problems in attack themselves as Massimo Luongo twice went close putting his side in front.

Darren Ward also squandered an opportunity to give the Robins the lead midway through the first period when he failed to keep his header on target.

They were punished when Westcarr's cross on 37 minutes reached Sawyers, and the forward tucked the ball past Foderingham.

Walsall started the game in the final League One playoff spot, five points ahead of eighth-placed Swindon.
