West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine downplays Joleon Lescott injury fears

West Brom boss Alan Irvine insists that Joleon Lescott has not suffered a major injury after the defender limped off during their friendly with Nottingham Forest.

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine has assured fans that defender Joleon Lescott is not facing an injury layoff after limping off during a pre-season friendly.

The former Manchester City man last just 35 minutes of Albion's 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest due to a suspected knee problem, but Irvine does not believe the injury to be serious.

"I've just spoken to Joleon Lescott and he feels okay," the Baggies boss told reporters. "He felt something on the outside of his knee, something he felt during the warm-up, and he just felt it go in the game.

"He said it's settled down now, but we were a little bit worried about it at the time, so hopefully that's nothing too bad.

"But we're so thin on the ground so we took him off. We're just trying to look after people, we can't afford an injury at this time."

Lescott joined West Brom on a free transfer this summer after his City contract came to an end.
