West Bromwich Albion have reportedly made an offer for Rennes midfielder Clement Grenier.
The 30-year-old, who has six months left on his contract at the French club, is available on a free transfer this month.
Football Insider reports that the Baggies are trying to steal a march on a number of other Premier League clubs who are believed to be interested and have already tabled a contract offer to Grenier.
Rennes are willing to let Grenier leave the club as they are one of a number of European teams looking to cut costs this year, having seen their revenue significantly decrease as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
West Brom boss Sam Allardyce, who completed his first signing of the window on Friday with the capture of Robert Snodgrass from West Ham United, is keen to sign a creative midfielder and a dead-ball specialist – an attribute that Grenier is known for.
The central midfielder, who was a product of the Lyon academy, has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, five of which have been in the Champions League.
