Manuel Pellegrini believes that his West Ham United players "lack trust" after spurning a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 at the hands of Bournemouth.

Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that his West Ham United players "lack trust" after they threw away a one-goal lead to slip to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Bournemouth.

The Hammers took the lead at the London Stadium through a first-half Marko Arnautovic penalty, but Callum Wilson and Steve Cook turned the game on its head after the break.

Pellegrini's reign as West Ham boss has begun with two straight losses and, before the end of September, the East Londoners will face Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United in the Premier League.

"The team was too nervous," the Chilean told BBC Sport. "We won the first half 1-0, from the bench it looked like the players wanted to finish and didn't continue playing, especially late in the first half. In the second half we conceded two easy goals, four defenders against one for the first goal.

"The squad, everyone, must forget about last season, trust what we are doing and look to the future. I feel the squad is without trust, many have to adapt to the Premier League. We knew we had a difficult start with our fixtures but at home we must win.

"The fans must also trust again this season. The stadium was empty with 10 minutes to go, we can still score in that time. They need to believe but if you don't have results it is more difficult for them."

West Ham currently sit bottom of the Premier League table following their poor start to the campaign.
