West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan promises January arrivals

West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan says that Sam Allardyce will be given money to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan has promised new arrivals in January to ensure the club's survival in the Premier League.

The Hammers have been left short of strikers in the first half of the season, with Andy Carroll sidelined by a heel injury, forcing manager Sam Allardyce to bring back Carlton Cole as a short-term measure.

Without a win in five games, they are second bottom, although it is tight at the foot of the table with 10 teams separated by 12 points.

"The last few months haven't been quite as good as we hoped but, on behalf of the board, I would say we will be making signings in January," The Mirror quotes Sullivan as saying.

"We hope to rectify the balance of the team, so, by the end of the season, we're well clear of relegation."

The East London side take on West Bromwich Albion at Upton Park this afternoon.
