Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan admits that he will feel "so proud" when he leads out the club for their FA Cup semi-final with Millwall at Wembley on Saturday.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that leading the club out at Wembley will help ease his own memories at the national stadium.

Whelan hasn't appeared on the Wembley pitch since breaking his leg in the 1960 FA Cup final, and he has admitted that he will be recalling that moment on Saturday evening when he leads Wigan out against Millwall for their semi-final clash.

The 76-year-old told BBC Sport: "Roberto knows what happened in 1960. He wants me to take the team out. I will be so proud."

"When I stand in the dressing room before the match or in the tunnel, I'm bound to think of that day in 1960. I don't want to think about it because it was an awful experience to do that, to get carried off, to go to hospital and to lose. But it's bound to go through my mind.

"Saturday is a big game for us, a tough game, but we can win it. I know we can."

The winners of Saturday's match will face either Manchester City or Chelsea in the final.
