Wolverhampton Wanderers announced the sacking of manager Mick McCarthy today following a crushing 5-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion yesterday.
The West Midlands side have picked up just 14 points from their last 22 fixtures in the top flight.
With danger of Premier League relegation looming, Sports Mole takes a look at the managers in the running to replace McCarthy and revive Wolves' season.
Alan Curbishley
Former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley has become the early favourite to be appointed as McCarthy's replacement. The 54-year-old has been out of work since leaving West Ham United in 2008. The coach could be a worthy appointment for Wolves with Curbishley's record of gaining top flight promotion for Charlton and keeping the Hammers in the Premier League despite looking set for relegation in 2006.
Neil Warnock
Neil Warnock has become a strong contender for the position after being released from Queens Park Rangers last month. The 63-year-old was open about his desire to return to management after a break from the game. The option to make a Premier League comeback could be tempting for Warnock, who led QPR to promotion from the Championship last season.
Steve Bruce
Former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is available after getting sacked from the Stadium of Light in November. With a wealth of Premier League experience, the ex-Manchester United player may be a desirable option for the Wolves board. Bruce had his longest stint in management at Birmingham City.
Dougie Freedman
Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman has been touted as a possible successor to McCarthy due to a positive run in the Championship season. The 37-year-old led his team to the Carling Cup semi-final but failed to overcome Cardiff City to claim a spot at Wembley. The former striker may be tempted to take on a challenge in the Premier League.
