Former Wolves midfielder Kenny Hibbitt says the club have made a mistake in sacking Mick McCarthy.

Former Wolves midfielder Kenny Hibbitt believes that the club have made a mistake in sacking Mick McCarthy.

McCarthy was relieved of his duties on Monday following the club's 5-1 loss to West Brom on Sunday, but Hibbitt has claimed that the former Republic of Ireland boss would have kept the club in the Premier League.

"I think Mick McCarthy should still be employed at Wolves. Personally, I feel that it is the wrong time to sack him. The new guy coming in has got a lot of work to do if he wants to keep them up," Hibbitt told talkSPORT.

"He's got no chance of bringing new faces in. I know a lot that goes on at the club and the players were 100 per cent behind Mick McCarthy and I think he would have got the points we need to stay in the Premier League."

Wolves sit 18th in the Premier League table.
