Formula 1 strategy group 'reject return to V8 engines'

Ferrari's proposals for a return to V8 engines are reportedly rejected.

Formula 1's strategy group has reportedly dismissed Ferrari's proposal to replace the current V6 hybrid engines.

The Scuderia had put forward a possible use of V8 twin-turbo power units from 2017, but Auto Motor und Sport claims that the idea has been rejected.

However, it is thought that plans put forward by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone to boost cars by 1,000 horse power remain on course.

One of the possible reasons behind the decision to reject a switch to V8 engines is the fear of a potential explosion in costs.

Hybrid engines were introduced to F1 at the beginning of 2014.
