Fernando Alonso "fine" after heavy crash in Formula 1 testing

McLaren confirm that Fernando Alonso is "uninjured and fine" following his heavy crash at testing in Barcelona.

Fernando Alonso is said to be "uninjured and fine" following a heavy crash in testing earlier today.

The 33-year-old was airlifted to hospital from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya course, where he was reportedly travelling at around 150kph when the incident took place on the 21st lap.

McLaren have confirmed that the two-time world champion has avoided any serious injuries following the crash, however, in a short statement which read: "We have the result of the CT scan and Alonso is uninjured and fine."

Suggestions that Alonso may have suffered an electric shock while at the wheel were also played down.
