Jenson Button: 'New brakes to blame for Spanish Grand Prix qualifying time'

Jenson Button of McLaren blames his lacklustre performance during the qualifying round of the Spanish Grand Prix on a recent brakes change.

McLaren's Jenson Button has insisted that a recent brakes replacement was to blame for his below-par performance in the qualifying round of the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Briton, who will start Sunday's race in 14th position after failing to reach the third qualifying round, claims that he was experiencing "big issues" with his vehicle.

"We put new brakes on for qualifying, I don't know what is going on with them but I had really big issues with the car all over the place," he told BBC Sport.

Button's McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso will start one position ahead on the grid after coming in a fraction of a second faster.
