In a bold move, Mercedes has responded to Ferrari's acquisition of Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season by securing a top talent from the rival camp.
According to Italy's La Repubblica, Simone Resta, a distinguished engineer from Ferrari who was recently working with the affiliated Haas team, has signed to join Mercedes. Resta will take on the role of Mercedes' new strategic development director, marking a significant shift not only for him but also for another Ferrari colleague, as they both transition to Brackley.
"Also flying with him to Britain will be Enrico Sampo," Alessandra Retico of La Repubblica reported, highlighting a notable talent migration from Maranello to Mercedes. In a related development, Loic Serra, formerly Mercedes' performance boss, is set to join Hamilton at Ferrari next year, adding another layer to the inter-team dynamics.
Sky Italia notes that both Resta and Sampo are scheduled to commence their roles at Mercedes in 2025, adhering to the standard 'gardening leave' protocol, which prevents immediate employment following a team switch.
