Rory McIlroy has claimed that it was important for him to "lead by example" at the Ryder Cup following his back-to-back Major triumphs this year.
The world number one clinched the British Open and US PGA Championship earlier this year before helping Europe beat the USA to Ryder Cup glory at Gleneagles last weekend.
The 24-year-old was able to deliver by winning three points, one of which came following an emphatic 5&4 victory over the USA's Rickie Fowler on singles Sunday.
"After the season that I've had and being world number one, I needed to go out there and set an example and lead by example," McIlroy told reporters. "I'm just happy I was able to do that on Sunday."
The Northern Irishman will be competing in this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
