Sergio Garcia has opted for rest over competing in the world championships in China.

Sergio Garcia has pulled out of the world championships in Shanghai next week in order to rest.

The Spaniard, who won the Andalucia Masters on Sunday, was in contention of a third successive title in Shanghai.

Despite qualifying for the WGC-HSBC Champions event, the 31-year-old has relinquished his spot to American Jim Furyk.

The world number one, Luke Donald, will also be absent from the tournament as his wife is expecting their second child.
