Bill Haas sank a monster 43-foot birdie putt to win the Northern Trust Open in a sudden death shootout.
In a topsy-turvy final round at the Riviera Country Club, the 29-year-old overcame the challenge of overnight leaders Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley to claim his fourth PGA Tour title.
Bradley and Mickelson both started well, making birdies at the par-five first to remain in a share of the lead.
However, both players showed stuttering form. When Haas sank a two-putt birdie on the 17th, Bradley and Mickelson simultaneously bogeyed the 15th to hand Haas the lead.
Mickelson drained a 27-foot putt at the 18th for birdie, which Bradley matched after putting from the fringe.
After finishing on seven-under-par, the American trio went to a playoff.
On the second extra hole, Bradley pitched to within 15 foot of the hole from a bunker. Haas then produced a moment of magic, snaking an inch-perfect 43-foot put into the cup.
Mickelson failed with his attempt to pitch-in from a greenside bunker, and Haas was confirmed as tournament champion when Bradley's putt slipped just wide.
The man from South Carolina picks up a cheque for $2.1million (£755,000).
