Rory McIlroy has said that the course at the Merion Golf Club has been testing every aspect of his game in the first two rounds of the US Open.
The 2011 winner of the tournament is joint 27th after adding a score of 70 on day two to his first-round total of 73.
"It was solid. It felt like every time I made a birdie, I made a bogey straight away. It's a course you feel like you can shoot a score but because of the pins, it's tricky," BBC Sport quotes the 24-year-old as saying.
"But I'm there for the weekend and I'm happy about that. It tests every aspect of your game. You've got to drive it well, be very tactical. There were people talking about 63s and 64s at the start of the week but I never saw it at all."
McIlroy is three shots behind clubhouse leader Luke Donald.
