Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy endure a disappointing third round at the US Open, as their challenge fades.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have both struggled on day three at the US Open.

Playing together for the third day in a row, the world number one and number two saw their respective challenges at Merrion fade away, despite hitting a birdie each on the opening hole.

Woods finished with 76 to leave himself nine-over par for the tournament, while McIlroy went one better, rendering himself eight-over for the tournament after a 75 on day three.

They are both some way off the current lead, which is two-under par.
