Canada earn gold in team rhythmic final as Wales claim first medal

Canada improve on their silver from four years ago to win the women's rhythmic gymnastics final ahead of Wales.

Canada have won gold in the women's team rhythmic final ahead of Wales, who claimed second place on Thursday night in Glasgow.

It was an improvement from four years ago for the Canadians after they finished behind Australia in Delhi, but the defending champions were fifth when all the rounds had been completed.

Patricia Bezzoubenko played a key role for Canada as the 17-year-old returned the best scores for her team with the ball, ribbon and clubs.

Francesca Jones, who was the flag bearer for Wales in Wednesday's opening ceremony, added another silver to her collection following her second-place finish with the hoop at the last Commonwealth Games.

England failed to win bronze for the second Games in a row as Malaysia edged their rivals out to finish third.
