Great Britain miss out on Ice Hockey World Championship gold

Great Britain are denied the gold medal in the Ice Hockey World Championships Group 1B after a 3-2 loss to Lithuania.

Great Britain have missed out on the gold medal at the Ice Hockey World Championships after a 3-2 defeat to Lithuania.

The team needed a point from the final match but Lithuania scored the winner with seven minutes remaining to deny Great Britain.

Mark Garside put Great Britain ahead from the slot after 14:08, hitting the post twice in the first period through Robert Lachowicz and Ben O'Connor.

Lithuania equalised after 29:55 when Danielius Omanovas struck low past Ben Bowns.

Nerijus Isauskas then gave Lithuania the lead on a five-on-three powerplay before the end of the second period.

Russ Cowley equalised after 43:25 but Paulius Gintautas's late powerplay goal denied Great Britain the gold medal.

South Korea won the gold medal instead and were promoted to Group 1A.
