Basel mock English clubs after booting Liverpool out of Champions League

Basel take a swipe at Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to highlight their domination over English clubs in recent years.

Basel decided to highlight their domination over English clubs in recent years with a cheeky Instagram post after booting Liverpool out of the Champions League.

The Swiss champions progressed into the knockout rounds of the elite tournament alongside Real Madrid after holding the Reds to a 1-1 draw at Anfield last night.

Basel have been successful over other Premier League clubs in the past - last season they beat Chelsea twice and in the 2012-13 campaign they knocked Tottenham Hotspur out of the Europa League.

Following the victory at Anfield, the club's Instagram account posted a cartoon image of a Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham player trudging off a pitch, with the words, 'You'll never walk alone,' written above.

After facing criticism on social media, it appears that the club have deleted the original post.
